Week 1 Personal Journal
Week 1 has been a really busy week for me. First of all, I want to state that I am extremely passionate about game developing and I want the best to happen to our team. That being said, I am going to go over what I did for week 1.
The first thing that I did was idealization for the general story, I was able to write down a short story timeline for our game (see below), and we will be using this as the baseline of our background story for our game.
Secondly, at the beginning, we really want a chibi character since it will be easier to model and animate, therefore, I drew a concept art for our in-game character.
Third, I was able to communicate with my group of the vision that I have, and then we worked on the game proposal together.
Fourth, since I just came back from Co-op, my MAYA skill was extremely rusty, also take in consideration of the scale of the game, I started doing some character model (chibi). Here are some rough basic character models that I made. Still learning how to use MAYA.
Fifth, certain member really want to do high definition character instead of chibi character. I thought over it, and I think its a great challenge for both my team and myself. Therefore, I started remodeling the character. Here's what I have so far (not finished).
Full iteration will be posted in another post.
Sixth, another modeler and I started working on the environment as well. Here's a rough render of that.
Seventh, I was able to update the studio blog and wrote the team journal for our team.
Summary: To summarize, our team progressed pretty fast this week. We were able to do a lot of modeling for both character and the environment. We identified the big scope that we set ourselves for the game, and hopefully, by starting it early, we will able to complete it.
Reflection: To myself, I identified that I always tend to have the issue of doing everything myself when others are busy. Therefore, a lot of work was done by myself without proper communication with the team. Also, since not everyone is as passionate or has a lot of time like me, I tend to take responsibility for working ahead. In the future, hopefully, I will able communicate with the team better as the project manager.
To my team, my team was pretty good last week. They are pretty responsive when I asked them questions. However, I do have some complaints. My team is quite passive on the game designing phase (maybe I just have a very strong voice within the team), and there was not a lot of recommendation other than 'I don't want chibi.' In the future, I wish my team to be more vocal.
