Week 11 Personal Blog
For this week, as the game director, I focused on visualizing and researching about the aesthetic of the last level of the environment. After that, I had multiple long meetings with our environment artist, and try to explain my vision of the level. This includes how the overall level looks like and how the enemy will interact with the environment (ex. patrol in the narrow hallway, the jumping platform in the middle of the level, etc. ) I also spent some time with my artist discussing how the skybox should flow the environment to further persuade the narrative. I didn't have much discussion with the programmer outside of assigning his part of the work and giving feedback on the implementation.
As the modeler and animator, I started my week by researching and visualizing how I want the bosses to look like. Things I took into consideration this time before starting is that how long it would take me to animate these models, how it would look within the environment, does it make them stand out from the normal enemy, etc.. I continued by modeling both the bosses and rigging them. After the bosses are fully rigged, I started looking into the animation. There are a lot of restriction that came into play when designing for the animation, this could include model restriction and also programming restriction. I tried my best to create the animations that are both flashy and also easy to implement for the programming side. Lastly, I added in the colliders that are needed for level 1 within Unity.
This week, I had another role which involves in redesigning the UI. During the last playtest, many players reflected that the UI is not intuitive and it doesn't teach the player what they need to do. Therefore, I started by researching on popular games and how they did their UI, this includes FF15, COD series, Battlefield series, MGS and also Nier Automata. After that, I created the UI using Photoshop and separate them into each individual groups for easier implementation for our programmer.
Overall, it is a very productive week.
